To date, several high-tech military equipment (JAS-39 EBS HU Gripen combat aircraft, Airbus A319 transport aircraft, Eurocopter H145M helicopter variants) have been deployed in the Hungarian Defence Forces. With their deployment, a need has emerged to apply modern operating and diagnostic systems, one of them being non destructive testing (NDT). One of the many key factors of applying  successful non-destructive testing is the level of competence of the personnel involved. This publication is about to describe the applicability and characteristics, as well as the experience gained while applying an eddy current testing method with high spatial resolution used during the operation of military aircraft.

Napjainkig a Magyar Honvédség légierejének kötelékében számos új, a kor technikai színvonalán álló haditechnikai eszköz állt hadrendbe (JAS-39 EBS HU Gripen harcászati repülőgép, Airbus A319 szállító  repülőgépek, Airbus H145M helikopter változatok).  Ezek megjelenésével együtt jár a korszerű  üzemeltetési és diagnosztikai rendszerek alkalmazása is, melyek egyik speciális eleme a roncsolásmentes anyagvizsgálat. Az üzemeltetésben résztvevő szakemberek felkészültségének szintje a roncsolásmentes vizsgálatok hatékony alkalmazásának egyik legfőbb tényezője. E publikáció egy, a katonai légijárművek üzemeltetése során felhasználható, nagy térbeli felbontóképességgel rendelkező, örvényáramos roncsolásmentes anyagvizsgálati módszer alkalmazási lehetőségét, sajátosságait, és az alkalmazó ezen a téren szerzett tapasztalatait mutatja be.

The public and the scientific world is divided by the widespread of commercially available small aircraft systems. Some people welcome the increasing capability of drones and would use them as soon as possible despite the many unanswered questions. Others doubt the sustainability of current commercial drone usage trends. It is obvious that drones cannot be treated as toys anymore. There are numerous risks beside the many advantages in case  of the most selling drones. Therefore the two sides agree that one of the biggest obstacles before the drone industry is the identification, thus it has to be addressed and solved as soon as possible. The publication presents the problems of drone identification, and highlights the relationship with  counter unmanned aircraft vehicle technologies. Describes the definitions and requirements of remote drone identification. Finally, it presents the groups of available technologies through examples
and compares their advantages and disadvantages.

A legnagyobb darabszámban eladott modellekben számos pozitív felhasználási lehetőség mellett komoly kockázat is rejlik. A két tábor éppen ezért abban egyetért, hogy a drónok további elterjedésének és a kapcsolódó ipari szegmens növekedésének egyik legnagyobb akadályára, a drónok azonosíthatósági problémáira mielőbb hatékony megoldást kell találni. A publikáció bemutatja a drónok azonosításával kapcsolatban felmerülő problémákat, majd kitér arra, hogy ezek milyen összefüggésben vannak a drónok elleni védekezéssel. Ismertetem a távoli drónazonosítás különböző definícióit, követelményeit, végül bemutatom az alkalmazható technológiák csoportjait és konkrét példákon keresztül azok előnyeit és hátrányait.

The industrial environment has been changing rapidly over the past few years. Today, the Internet of Things (IoT) is finding its way into the global industry sectors. This ongoing industrial digitisation raises new challenges for the whole manufacturing industry. Smart factories are on the rise and promise higher efficiency and productivity. New technological developments in the field of hardware and software significantly extend today’s possibilities. Cutting- edge digital manufacturing solutions, especially new smart machines and collaborative robots are being promoted as key enabling technologies in this fourth industrial revolution. However, in the era of Industry 4.0 the holistic integration is a matter of great importance. Taking a step towards Industry 4.0, it is crucial to give equal consideration to products, production processes and business activities.

The radio navigational Instrument Landing Systems (ILSs) are currently intended to guide the aircrafts in  lateral and vertical dimensions to the runway surface safely and precisely. Therefore, they are strongly  related to the geographic location of an airport and  its runway(s). The ILS systems use the aids of the radio frequency radiation to achieve this purpose,  depending on the ground emitting stations, and providing the guidance to the runway centreline location along with the glide slope guidance during  the Final Approach Segment (FAS). Furthermore, the  new ILS systems are fully aided by the coordinates of  the Global Positioning System (GPS) instead of the ground radiations, they use the waypoint fixes during the landing phase of flight by means of transmitting their corrections to the on-board receivers. Those new invented Ground Based Augmentation Systems (GBAS) are more precise and trustable, they also increase the capacity of the huge air traffic demands nowadays by multiple and non-straight approaches.  As a result, the Geographic Information System (GIS)  of any airport supported by the GBAS system is intended to be fully used and implemented in both  instrumental and procedural aids. Many previous  studies had indicated that the old procedural approaches should be changed to the new GIS aided ones, but without pointing out when and how to  implement such important transfer. The purpose of this study is to assess the performance of the GIS aided precision procedures using the GBAS stations, and to identify to what extent they can enhance the  navigational aviation in the air traffic management domain. A special focus will be put on the Hungarian Budapest international airport in terms of both capability motivating factors and the current GIS infrastructure aiding. Results showed a promising chance for more investment in installing the GBAS stations in the airport. That will enable more capacity and easier approaches in all weather conditions.

Centrifugal compressors are widespread in gas turbines – for example in thrust or turboshaft engines in the field of aviation, or in power generation. The main features of centrifugal compressors are high pressure ratio per each stage and stable operation at a relatively wide range of the fluid flow. Despite these advantages at low mass flow rates, some kind of instabilities appear (like rotating stall and surge), which are the same in axial compressors and which may occur in the form of total pressure and mass flow rate fluctuation. It is very important to avoid these instabilities to protect the equipment and the connected systems, because the energy stored in the fluctuations is enough for the disintegration of impeller blades as well. Creating a mathematical model of the centrifugal compressor is very important regarding the prediction of the system behavior in different operational modes, and in the unstable operational ranges an active surge suppression system could avert the undesired  regimes which could occur in the lack of any active surge avoidance system. The objective of our paper is to describe the mass flow rate – pressure ratio and mass flow rate – efficiency characteristic of the equipment by polynomial regression approximation method based on the result of earlier measurement. The equation created by this method covers the whole operational range, its advantages are shown by a comparison method instead of the result of earlier linear methods (for example bilinear equation by relative physical revolution and dimensionless mass flow rate). The mathematical model of the compressor was tested by dynamic simulations in MATLAB Simulink environment, and the solution was validated by the result of transient measurements. The created dynamic model opens the way to the development process of a state-of-the-art, active surge suppression control system.

Space is not a privilege of the greatest economic powers anymore. As a result of constantly decreasing costs and technological advancements, even small companies with small budgets can take part in the Space Race of 21st century. Small and microsatellites are the perfect platforms for this and their use cases are constantly expanding. However, the more and more diverse payloads are worthless without the fundamental subsystems such as the onboard computer, power supplies, wireless communication unit or the subsystem which is responsible for the orientation of the satellite. Therefore, a need arises for the development of a universal satellite platform that provides the essentials for different payloads and scientific research equipment designed by third parties. Thus, for creating a standardised, cost-effective and flexibly expandable, therefore more accessible small satellite platform. The authors describe a universal CubeSat platform that meets the above requirements, elaborating in detail the challenging development process which demands unique solutions, the advantages of highly reliable software technologies and the potential provided by such a platform.

A társuló technológia fejlődésének hatására bekövetkező költségcsökkenés eredményeképpen napjainkban akár egy kis cég, alacsony költségvetéssel is megmérettetheti magát a 21. század űrversenyében.

In the field of technological development, a new image of innovation has emerged. 3D printing is one of the most revolutionary manufacturing technologies of our time, yet its history can be traced back to the 1980s. Events such as the expiration of patents related to 3D printing and the phenomenon of an industrial revolution called Industry 4.0 led to a boom. The opportunities offered by the technology have been exploited internationally by several different repertoire companies. Following its spread, companies such as Airbus or Boeing began to make  extensive use of 3D printing. In our article we would like to present, in addition to the international use of the technology, the construction of a sensor channel integrated in our unmanned aerial vehicle, which is a really interesting example of the use of 3D printing technology at the domestic level.

Crucial factors with respect to modern autonomous  vehicles include reliability and design. Researchers and engineers strive to increase the number of vehicles over the latest possibilities both in industrial and in military applications. A number of modern batteries are available on the market for the electric autonomous vehicles. The authors suggest the use of test chambers to investigate optimal battery use and performance in vehicles. The results of the theoretical research suggest that the use of test chambers during battery management system development is necessary.

Gas turbine power plants are equipped with full  authority digital electronic control (FADEC), thanks to their improved accuracy, reduced mass, and dimensions and maintenance requirements. At BME DANAR and its predecessor, the development of electronic control systems has begun in 2009 after  TKT-1 turbojet engine test bench entered service. This paper introduces the main steps of the work on the initial and other types (PD-60R and Deutz T216), and the different control laws (rotor speed, Engine Pressure Ratio and Turbofan Power Ratio). Furthermore, the authors present those algorithms (PID, linear quadratic and sliding mode control) which have been implemented in their FADEC systems. Probably the most important advantage of the presented work is that it has been validated in real gas turbine environment.

This research project is focused on area scanning in  the scope of smart city applications with unmanned aerial vehicles or UAVs. More powerful devices have been designed in terms of range, capacity and sensory capabilities in the recent years. This makes possible easier automation, thus suppressing the need for human resources. Some of the fields of applications include: traffic or pollution monitoring, land surveying, civil security control or natural disaster control and monitoring. With the increased number of UAV applications, the use and development of efficient algorithms is more and more essential. This paper investigates the possibility of using Monte-Carlo Tree Search (MCTS) and Reinforcement Learning (RL) in this area, which are already successful methods in other control tasks.

The publication addresses the question whether commercially available unmanned aircrafts (commonly known as drones), which are becoming increasingly popular today and are freely accessible to anyone, are exposed to various cyberspace threats or not. It describes the definition of cyberspace and the unmanned aerial vehicle system, presents the general structure and components of such a system and points out the relationship between the two. Then it briefly describes the attack vectors and methods that pose an existing cyberspace threat to unmanned aerial vehicles. Finally, the publication also discusses how these solutions can be used in defence against unmanned aerial vehicles.

Over the past few years, the operation of ground and air infrastructure at international airports has required increasingly sophisticated technologies and automated systems, which have increased the vulnerability of airports and the aviation sector to cyber criminals and terrorists. The situation has been exacerbated by the Covid-19 epidemic. The possibility of cyberattacks against airports and aircraft poses real dangers such as the obstruction of continuous and smooth operation of ground and air infrastructures, serious breaches of operational security, loss of data and its acquirement by unauthorised hands, collapse of IoT and communication systems. The aim of this review article is to provide relevant and up-to-date landscape related to the main causes, types, impacts, risks and minimisation of cyberattacks against large international airports by presenting some concrete international examples, and to make proposals to reduce exposure to cyberattacks through organisational and operational solutions such as information sharing, cyber awareness and networking.
