Coordination of Series and Individual Production in a Given Plant

doi: 10.32560/rk.2023.2.5

Abstract

The metal machining department of the examined facility received a request in 2020, in which the client ordered the manufacturing of a lathe machine for machining large-sized logs. However, obstacles were encountered in the operational processing of the workflow after designing the main spindle of the log lathe and developing its manufacturing technology. In this thesis, we attempt
to synchronize the periodically appearing fixed-quantity orders in the facility’s mass production with the production of individually designed products. To achieve this, we first examine, model, and simulate the manufacturing processes running in the facility, including their interconnections.
The results of the conducted simulations are evaluated, and the manufacturing processes are optimized. Our goal is to experimentally find a hybrid method combining mass production and custom production, considering the current capabilities of the facility. Additionally, our aim is to discover a long-term, implementable manufacturing method that allows for the continuous flow of variable-parameter and small-batch or custom-made components between production units.
