SIGINT Airplanes

Abstract

Nowadays, the SIGINT has a major role in different conflicts. The SIGINT equipments can be ground-based, or can be installed in a ship, an aircraft or a satellite. It is important to emphasize, that the task of these equipments and their crews – including the SIGINT and Electronic Warfare experts as well - starts in peacetime or in the early period of a conflict, because they have to create different databases. The primary aim of these databases is to support effectively the commander’s decision-making and to provide intelligence information, but the available dates can be used for self-defence as well. In the article, I would like to give a short overview about the SIGINT and Electronic Warfare and I would like to emphasize the difference between the SIGINT and the use of the Electronic Warfare in the electronic self-defence system of the JAS-39 Gripen. At the end of the article I would like to introduce some previous missions and current SIGINT aircrafts.
