Airpor City in Ferihegy: a Dream or Reality?

Abstract

In the last decade globalizing world markets established those changes which have converted airports and their adjacent areas into catalysts for local economic development. The „airLED” project studied the possibilities how to convert Central European regional airports into „airport cities”. The stakeholders of the interested areas have elaborated their own complex, polycentric spatial development plans on the basis of the common methodology elaborated within the project. Meetings were held in every region where the strategic plans were established during wider consultations which are part of the regional spatial development concepts of the region, as it is the case in Hungary. Among the Central-European regional airports which have participated in the project first of all ”Liszt Ferenc Budapest International Airport” and its’ adjacent area is which disposes with all those pre-conditions which are needed to became to an „airport city”. This paper discusses it more in detail.
