Abstract
The aim of this paper is to introduce the 8D method and to point out its connections to other quality management tools. 8D is mainly used at the automotive industry and it became very popular in the last decade. It gained its popularity because not just the multinational car producers, but the whole automotive supply chain is using it. The method is used for tracking root causes and for solving problems. According to its name this quality process consists of 8 steps. These steps aid the work team to systematically analyze the failures. This paper introduces the method with simplified examples and points out its variability with other quality techniques.
