On the Meteorological Applying of Unmanned Aircraft Systems I. – The Weather Reconnaissance

Abstract

The numerical weather forecastings contain some mistakes which may generate serious problems in the forecasting of microphysical processes such as turbulence and icing. In order to decrease the dangers of the mentioned problems it seems to be a good decision to apply unmanned aircraft systems which are equipped with an adequate meteorological sensor system. These UASs are able to produce exact real-time meteorological information during their flight for the operational forecasters. In our work we show the earlier meteorological reconnaissance experiments were made by UASs in Hungary. On the other hand we also present a recommendation about a complex meteorological sensor system which can be applied onboard an meteorological UAS. Finally we present our results are based on the experimental measurements were made by our Hungarian meteorological UAS, too.
