Biodiesel Fuel Production Using Fish Oil in Brazil

Abstract

The largest country of South America tries to decrease its energy dependency from foreign import producing biofuel. In the previous years they produced biodiesel and bioethanol using different seeds and sugarcane but recently they have oriented to fish oil. In Brazil large amount of farm-bred tilapia fish is produced using only their fillet, while the other parts of the fish are simple industrial waste. In Brazilian universities new researches started for the salvage of the earlier dropped offal, skin, fish scales and fins. Analysing the physical and chemical parameters of this waste it was proved that the fish oil earned from different part of tilapia can be a suitable substance for biodiesel production. Introducing this technology they could decrease the environmental contamination and additionally they produce alternative fuel.
