Flight Safety without Human Error?

  • Dudás Zoltán

Abstract

A human error proof flight safety? Does it exist? The author attempts to answer the question, whether the most influencing factors of flight safety, such as human factors and their unperfection besides the human errors causing the major part of accidents and incidents could be taken out of the system. The human factors and error as parts of safety philosophy, are examined by various theories like: the Reason theory, the SHEL(L) theory, and the SRK theory. Although, approaches and perspectives to the problem are different, their theories and conclusions have some overlappings, as they could circumscribe most of the frequent types of human errors. Unfortunately, the theories mentioned could not tell whether human error is acceptable or unacceptable. So as to solve that issue the author points out the difference between old fashioned and modern safety philosophies.
