The Middle East and the Weapons of Mass Destruction: Syria

Abstract

The emergence of the weapons of mass destruction was a milestone in the history of warfare. The invention of nuclear weapons contributed to a worldwide rivalry between countries in the Cold War era and the subsequent years. The decades long conflicts between the Arabian countries and Israel also contributed to a rivalry. The mutual fear of each other urged them to gain access to weapons of mass destruction. Syria was not an exception there. This study aims to present Syria’s pursuit of development, production, and supply of these kinds of weaponry in the last decades.
