Abstract
The use of improvised explosive devices (IED) is not unknown in the history of warfare. Nowadays, however, significant changes can be observed in warfare, with indirect procedures increasingly pushing traditional or direct procedural modes into the background. Differences in technological or operational procedures between the warring parties usually result in asymmetric warfare. At the same time, the use of improvised explosive devices is increasingly being associated with asymmetric warfare, since this is fundamentally influenced by this weapon. Countering the threat of this weapon is now incorporated in a complex system that includes device detection. The driving force behind the development of IED countering is the maintenance of the freedom of movement, which fundamentally affects the success of operations.
