Radiation Protection Methods in Case of Serious Accidents

Abstract

For many decades NPPs have been demonstrating that the use of nuclear energy has numerous advantages. They have no harmful gas-emission, the waste output and the risks of the transportation of the technology, and the efficiency of the use of the energy is highly compared to other industries. On the other hand, the nuclear industry has its own risks. In the past, these risks affected some major accidents, like the catastrophe in Chernobyl and in Fukushima. In this paper, I would like to present the potential processes from the aspect of radiation protection and the remarkable combined methods that are deserved to apply. The main reason behind this is the fact, that based on my experiences, the applied methods have limitations both in time and place of the applications. To my mind, the basic requirement should be to avoid the further aggravation of the current accident and the protection of the people and environment are the accessibility of the radiological data, that are necessary to make the appropriate decisions and actions.
