The Application of Digital Image Processing in Disaster Management

Abstract

The digital image processing is experiencing an explosive development and became part of our daily life. It is used in the field of medical diagnostics, space research, quality control, telecommunication, and industrial process control, but plays a significant role in fire protection and in implementation of analysis tasks and organization of injury elimination processes in the field of disaster management. From this point of view, the objective of pictorial data collection is the monitoring of damage survey, getting information about the reasons of the occured happening and to propose aimed examinations. The tools of digital image processing can be applied both regional and on building-scale to get concrete informations quickly. This paper presents the applications of digital image processing in damage assessment and management through case studies.
