How Can Linguistic Fingerprints Help the Investigation?

Abstract

The study provides an insight into the contribution of the linguist and the forensic linguist expert, regarding the work of the investigative authority. When the investigation stagnates in one phase, the authority can initiate the involvement of external experts, as well. Our linguistic fingerprints can convey messages and evidence as well, concerning the following questions: who could be the perpetrator? Who could write the letter? Whose voice can we hear on the sound recording? In one word, the linguist expert also profiles regarding the perpetrator’s age, sex, ethnicity and other attributes as well.
