The Reorganisation of Police Work In the Territory of the Present Pest County in 1945

Abstract

Aim: To present the police organization system reorganized in 1945 in the territory of the present Pest County, considering the legal norms of that period and the social and political factors.

Methodology: Processing and analysing of legal norms and literature data from a historical perspective.

Findings: In the last few months of the Second World War, the state apparatus and the state administration of the Horthy regime disintegrated, which brought with it the disappearance of the previous model of police administration. In 1945, the gendarmerie was abolished, the democratic police force was established and major changes took place in the legal environment governing the police. This, of course, had a great impact on the citizens living in the territory of the present Pest county and on the police force, which was organised mainly from recruits.

As a police officer working in Pest County for more than 20 years and as a researcher of police history, I would like to describe in this article the police work in the former headquarters of Pest County and the post-war public security conditions.

Value: After the devastation of the Second World War, the task of restoring public security and internal order required a coherent and effective police organisation. The foundations for this were laid in 1945.
