Abstract
Lawful and professional police actions enhance societal stability and the rule of law. The development of novice police officers can be significantly supported by mentoring, an increasingly popular professional support method. Mentoring offers mutual benefits for mentors and mentees; however, the success of these programs depends on their flexibility and ability to adapt to the individual needs of participants. Artificial intelligence (AI), such as ChatGPT, offers new opportunities for supporting professional knowledge and mentoring. As a language model, it can provide quick and relevant responses, complementing traditional mentoring approaches. However, AI cannot replace human mentors, especially in law enforcement, where human experience and emotional intelligence are fundamental. The application of AI also raises several challenges, but human-machine interaction can offer new perspectives for developing mentoring practices. This study aims to examine the role of ChatGPT in police mentoring, highlighting its potential and limitations, as well as the synergies between human and AI-based mentoring.
