Abstract
The Common European Asylum System (CEAS) is a harmonised system for the management
of asylum and asylum applications between EU countries. The aim of this study is to analyse
the statistical data collection function of the CEAS, using empirical research based on
interviews with representatives of EU organisations and Member States. The interviews were
based on the experiences and opinions of the interviewees on how the current data collection
system functions in monitoring asylum processes and shaping European asylum policy.
The study highlights the current challenges and shortcomings of data collection and makes
recommendations for improving the efficiency of data collection and the system in order to
make the CEAS an even more effective tool for addressing the challenges of asylum in Europe.
