Efficiency in Traffic Police

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to contribute to an understanding of effectiveness from the perspective of police, law and psychology. Furthermore to record insights, experiences and initiatives that are relevant to traffic law enforcement and identify initiatives to improve efficiency. From 2015 I have been collecting data from 129 drivers who had caused fatal accidents. In 103 cases, there was a prior violation (usually not following the speed limits). Objective factors (road conditions, weather) also appeared, but the focus was on human faults (falling asleep, not giving priority). Within the system-wide approach, compliance with traffic laws is one of the means of ensuring and improving traffic safety. Police enforcement can only be effective if the law systems operate in a supportive environment. Enforcement of a limited number of high-risk offenses is more effective in reducing road accidents than non-targeted general enforcement.
