The European Union’s Customs Measures from a Hungarian (Member State’s) Viewpoint
Abstract
“Foreign trade, import, export, customs duties, export- and import restrictions as well as prohibitions, different international economic and commercial agreements” hardly one day goes by without coming across these expressions in the written or electronic media. Apparently, these topics, however frequently they might appear in the news, do not have significant influence on our everyday lives. In the public eye customs authority is an armed force whose work is limited to checking people and holidaymakers at airports and borders, collecting customs duty, and preventing the importation of different dangerous or prohibited goods. While all the above mentioned opinions are true, they do not give the whole picture about the role of customs authority.
