Difficulties and Attempts in the Domestic Research of Profiling
Abstract
Criminal profiling is the most promising field of applied criminal psychology. There is no doubt that this field is difficult to research although, as foreign literature shows, more and more research is being done. In this paper after a short introduction of basic definitions I describe the stereotypes and misunderstandings that make the unfolding and research of profiling in our country difficult and sometimes impossible. I argue that Hungarian research of the field is important and an essential investment. In the second part of the paper I introduce my doctoral research which focuses on the psychic processes of homicidal perpetrators in the post-offensive phase. After describing the structure of the study I report about the actual status of my work as well. Finally, I write about the methodological difficulties and dilemmas that emerged during the process and draw conclusions from them.
