The Concept of Gender and Persecution Based on Sexual Orientation. The Reasons for Persecution and the Examination of Reliability

Abstract

Academic papers focus very little on the concept of gender, on the situation of those who are forced to flee because of their gender-identity or sexual orientation and on related procedural problems despite the fact that these are not new phenomena. I started to research this topic to draw the attention to the fact that some people become so vulnerable for such trivial andinalienable reasons that they feel forced to leave their homeland. Nevertheless, during an application procedure these reasons can hardly be proven, in my paper I give great attention to the question of reliability, because a successful application can depend on it. For the above reason it is essential to work out a unified asylum system, in which cases of gender based or sexual orientation based persecutions have an equally important role as the other cases of asylum seekers.
