Workers’ Militia — “Exceptional Occurences” — (In)justice

  • Kiss Dávid

Abstract

After the crushing of the 1956 Revolution, a reserve force was needed to complement the official armed forces — a force that could be counted on no matter the circumstances. It was thus that the Workers’ Militia was established. Especially in the early stages, the high amount of criminal activity caused major problems within the Militia. The paper looks into at the types of crimes committed in 1957 and their causes.
