Criminology and Law Enforcement
Abstract
The study discusses the role of criminology in the higher education of law enforcement. The author goes through the history and development of criminology from a police point of view highlighting the major milestones. Criminology has three areas, namely the victimization process, the treatment of latency and the fear of crime, which as meeting points between the police and the citizens have an effect on the population’s sense of security. Therefore the right action taken by the police in these areas can be particularly effective. The results of criminological research are integrated into the academic curriculum making criminology an “applied” science assisting police work on the field.
