Probabilistic Forensic Expert Opinions and Their Consequences in Crime Cases
Abstract
Learning from the faults of probabilistic expert opinions may decrease the number of cases leading to the miscarriage of justice. The examples of the Madrid terrorist attack and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome cases in the UK highlight the sources of the problems with a view to the avoidance of future mistakes. The paper emphasizes the importance of the holistic regulation and validation of expert opinions.
