In this article I would like to provide a comprehensive but not full overview of close protection and the typical features of this activity. Within this framework and on the basis of the general need for security the most important connection points of this field will be introduced primarily from the angles of law enforcement and private security. Besides clarifying the basic connections I would shortly outline the public and private pillars of close protection and would detail further aspects on which basis certain forms of close protection may be differentiated.
