The Deprivation of Nationality in France

Abstract

In this paper I present the different possibilities of acquisition and forfeiture of the French nationality, paying special attention to the question of deprivation of nationality. After displaying its historical aspects, I analyse the decisions of deprivation based on activities related to terrorism taken since 1973, its causes and backgrounds. I draw attention to the limits meant by the law and certain international treaties and directives. In addition, I present the main points of the debate on modifying the French constitution.
