Abstract

In the hungarian correctional institutions we have several detention units with special treatment needs. These departments were created primarily to manage the individual, specific situation of the prisoner in a professional, targeted and attentive manner. On 1st of February, 2018 a new unit was introduced in hungarian prison system for the first offense criminals. The objective of the unit is to protect the specialized group of inmate population (first offenders), to reduce the risc of recividism, and to minimize incarceration- and prisonization effects, and to prevent inmates from becoming victims. The basis for effective reintegration is personalization. This unit strives to ensure this important principle in its entirity.
