Assessment of Certain Interrelations between Industrial Safety in the Energy Sector and Environmental Sustainability, Part 2

Abstract

Ensuring the safe operation of hazardous facilities through the effective implementation of industrial safety measures is a fundamental prerequisite for achieving sustainable development. The primary objective of the present study is to explore the interrelations between the industrial safety in the energy sector and the environmental dimension. The second part of this article series evaluates the points of connection between the two fields form a practical perspective, based on the threefold task system of disaster management. The analysis is conducted through examples of recent energy sector accidents and malfunctions that involved significant environmental contamination, focusing on the quantity of harmful substances released, the effectiveness of recovery efforts, and the environmental vulnerability of energy systems.
