Issues of Developing Land-Based Field Communications and IT Systems in the Hungarian Defence Forces

Abstract

The development of the armed forces has received a high priority within the Hungarian Defence Forces in recent years, which was indicated by the changing security policy environment (the annexation of the Crimean Peninsula in 2014, the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2022). Maintenaning outdated technical equipment with decades of service life was no longer efficient or economical, and they did not meet modern operational standards. This study presents the development of land-based deployable communications and information systems supporting the command and control system, as part of the Zrínyi Defence and Force Development Program launched in 2016, in the light of the lessons learned from the Russian-Ukrainian war.
