The Legal Framework of Telemedicine in Two Member States of the European Union
Abstract
The actuality of our article is given by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Due to this situation, the conventional doctor–patient physical interactions are strongly limited and a significant part of it moved to the virtual space. In this article we overview the most important sections of the current laws for telemedicine in the neighbouring Austria. Furthermore, we discuss the relevant data protection regulations of the European Union. Our analysis have been based of the current baseline status of this process. The acceleration of legislative process on telemedicine expected as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic affects global economy, health and social systems. Learning about the foreign situation and adopting the positive observations can support the development of the legal background of the more and more popular telemedicine in Hungary.
