Abstract

After the First World War closing treaties of peace, countries of Europe have believed that their safety can be provided by building hardened facilities. The Soviet Union was creating fortified districts along its Western borders. As a result of the 1939 Germany–Soviet pact, a new Western border was established where a new fortification system was being built. Until 1941, the beginning of the Germany–Soviet war, the Soviet fortified districts were not in a combat ready.
