Groundwater Modelling at the Catchment of Kolon Lake

doi: 10.32562/mkk.2021.4.7

Abstract

The water management problems of the Sand ridge between the Danube and Tisza rivers appear from time to time. The groundwater level subsidence in the area, which partly due to the anthropogenic impact and partly due to natural processes, is the primary cause of the problems. Groundwater level subsidence is the main problem in wetlands, agricultural and forestry areas. These negative processes also affect the Kolon Lake, which is a marshland of special importance in Kiskunság. The lack of water in the area of the Kolon Lake may raise long-term irrigation needs in the catchment area of the lake. Based on our prepared hydrodynamic model, we try to make a prediction, and we are able to monitor the development of the groundwater base and estimate the effects.
