The Physical Mental and Psychical Pressure of Firefighters – The Preparation of Fire Fighters for Rescue Duties

Abstract

Day by day Fire fighters rescue lives and property, their life is continuous tension and they are on call all the time. They are present as primary rescue organization at accidents, during disasters, they are not only the first to arrive at these events but they are present until the event has passed and closed. We can observe them carrying out their everyday work and rescue duties in an organized and firm manner. Few know only, that the work of fire fighters does not start at the place of the accidents or disasters. In order to be on time at the right place, to be prepared, to use the best methods possible to save us the place of the accident, they must participate at long trainings and learn their skills during the everyday life of fire fighters . We shall raise the question: how do they become capable to take decisions in seconds to save our lives? What do they need to know for technical rescue and for fire-fighting? How does daily work look like at a fire station? What are the harmful factors that affect fire fighters physically, psychically and mentally? In this article authors are looking for answers to the above questions.
