Abstract
The study briefly examines the history of antipersonnal landmines as well as the fundamental problems (indiscriminate effect, endangering personnel after the end of the armed conflict) associated with their use. It details the initiatives of control and prohibition in the last decades, examining the system created by the Ottawa Treaty, as well as the activities of ICBL and the EU in this field.
