Abstract

Natural and industrial disasters in recent years, demanded that communities must be informed and prepared. Red Cross National Societies in closer cooperation with governments undertakes emergency rescue tasks, emergency preparation and humanitarian supplies to the affected population. All these activities provides an effective supplement to the authorities. The Red Cross Movement is based on volunteer labor, so that the programs involved the participation of communities, we can achieve a large number of volunteers. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies wants to create active communities, who - in possession of the skills – will be ready to respond to disasters, and to be able to assist less prepared persons. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department (ECHO) and 10 EU Red Cross National Societies are partnering to raise awareness among EU citizens on silent disasters and our work together in responding to these disasters and also to be prepared to emergency situations.
