The Hungarian Military Explosive Technology in World War I

  • Lukács László

Abstract

Within the Austro–Hungarian political arrangement, a number of ministries, among them the War Ministry were under common leadership. Rules and regulations were commonly translations from German. This study presents the explosive materials used in that period, then it offers a survey of structural materials (wood, metal, brickwork, stone, concrete, reinforced concrete), as well as the rules of ground explosions. For reasons of brevity, to illustrate a complex explosive task, the rules governing the blowing up of bridges are presented. To conclude the various chapters, short partial conclusions are included to underline the similarities as well as the differences between the rules and regulations of the examined epoch and those of today.
