Problems of the Proper Definition and the Mensurability of Corruption Committed by Police Officers

Abstract

This study investigates the effects of the lack of standardized framing of corruption and the difficulties of objective mensuration of such behaviours on the investigation of this symptom, There is correspondence among the different definitions of different researcher; the distinction is mainly in the scenes of the corruption. The author states that the cases of corruption committed by off-duty officers are more complex, however, less investigated. This study shows the measurability of this symptom through investigations and closed cases, emphasizing the advantages and disadvantages of both methods. Statistics reveal fall in the number of corruption, but because the lack of overall research in the last 13 years, the mending situation can neither be supported nor be refuted. According to the author, the corruption is hardly measurable; the most accurate conception can be obtained by the statistics and researches collectively.
