Use of Reliability Methods in Critical Infrastructure Protection
Abstract
Modern informational societies are very vulnerable through their infrastructure. In order to maintain the welfare and operation of society, we pay much attention to the protection of critical infrastructure. According to the current risk-analysis practice, protective structures and assets are described and compared with qualitative methods. Statistical description of VBIED charge mass and occurrence of VBIED attacks is not yet available. We briefly introduce a method, which can link the conventional structural design methods and the reliability models, and thus, produce a qualitative measurement of safety of the system. For comparison, we also show how the optimal safety can be determined.
