Abstract
Over recent decades we have seen new technological advances, economic globalization and ongoing international political unrest as components of risk to national and international security. For countermeasures, local, national and international authorities and organizations need to collaborate to be prepared and to establish the best available response strategy to minimize to potential loss of lives, to reduce economic loss and to avoid new international conflicts. Over the last decades, most terrorist attacks were carried out with the help of conventional means, such as firearms and explosives. Nevertheless, there is a possibility that terrorist organizations might eventually turn to unconventional weapons, such as chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) materials, potentially leading to a high number of casualties and causing huge socio-economic damage. The author reflects of the article CBRN- managing special aspects of risk regarding chemical, biological and nuclear threats and presents on the EU’s new detection and mitigation on a new approach to CBRN risk.
