Miklós Zrínyi's Activities in Strengthening the Defences of the Muraköz Region

Abstract

Knowing and using the terrain to one’s advantage is a fundamental prerequisite of any successful fighting. Thus, preparation for this cannot be started too early. Nowadays, when area defense receives special attention in Hungary, it is worth examining those historical examples that prove this thesis right. In the following, the validity of this thesis is demonstrated by the deeds of the poet and general Miklós Zrínyi, an outstanding figure of both Hungarian and European military history.
