Assessment of the Development Opportunities for Technical Intervention Equipment of Volunteer Fire Brigades

Abstract

Rescue and fire safety, i.e. firefighting and technical rescue is a complex task, which may solely be operated with sufficient effectiveness against an appropriate specialist background. Such set of requirements covers both firefighting staff with specialist expertise and the gear and equipment required for interventions. The fulfilment of firefighting tasks calls for specialist means in line with the nature of a particular incident, in possession of which volunteer firefighters engaged in intervention must also be. The author aims to pinpoint the need for the technical development of volunteer firefighter associations currently in possession of heterogeneous assets in order to improve their intervention capability. Advancement of technical background along a uniform concept may, in the long run, serve the establishment of optimal dislocation while facilitating the involvement of volunteer firefighter associations. Introducing state-of-the-art gear and equipment into the system is expected to have a positive impact on cost efficiency and operating costs in addition to improving the success of specialist efforts. The work was created in commission of the National University of Public Service under the priority project KÖFOP-2.1.2-VEKOP-15-2016-00001 titled „Public Service Development Establishing Good Governance” in Győző Concha Doctoral Program.
