Development of a Building Insulation Block from a Waste Bottle

doi: 10.32562/mkk.2020.2.6

Abstract

In my research, structural foam was prepared from PET bottles using chemicals. Application of additives (chain-increasing, impact-enhancing and flame retardant) further improved the properties of the foams. The usability of the developed material in the construction industry was tested on 100x100x8 mm samples. Analysing the results, it has been found that  the increase of the flame retardant has apositive effect on cell distribution, which improves the heat transfer coefficient of the material. Using 20% flame retardant, an insulating board completes a complete self-extinguishing process within seconds.
